Sharing Our Digital Vision: Highlights from the Microfinance Tech Summit in Zimbabwe

The 3rd Microfinance Technology Summit , held on June 12–13 at Harare’s Rainbow Towers and Harare International Conference Centre, brought together over 500 participants including industry leaders, innovators, policymakers, and experts, to discuss solutions and share ideas for driving financial inclusion across the globe. Organized by SNG Events in partnership with ZAMFI and AMIR, the summit focused on “Unlocking the Future of Financial Inclusion Through Technology”, showcasing the urgent drive toward digital transformation across Africa’s microfinance sector.

As PCES, we were proud to be part of this important event, where we had the opportunity to both exhibit and contribute to the discussions shaping the future of microfinance.

Our team was present with a dedicated stand, where our team engaged with delegates from across the continent and beyond. We showcased AKIBA, our cloud-based core banking solution tailored for the specific needs of microfinance institutions and SACCOs. Throughout the summit, we had the opportunity to demonstrate how AKIBA supports operational efficiency, improves service delivery, and enhances scalability, all while remaining simple and cost-effective for institutions working to reach underserved populations.

Our Digitalization Expert, Christophe Bretagnolle, was featured as a speaker on the first day. His presentation, titled “The African Financial Inclusion Landscape”, provided a comprehensive overview of the key challenges and opportunities facing financial service providers on the continent. Drawing from PCES’s experience working with MFIs across Africa, Christophe shared practical insights into how digital strategies can support institutions in expanding their outreach, adapting to regulatory requirements, and building more resilient operations.

On the second day, Christophe joined a panel discussion on “Core Banking Solutions – Enhancing Efficiency and Scalability in Microfinance.” The panel brought together key stakeholders to explore how digital core systems can support the evolving needs of microfinance institutions.

The summit provided us with a unique platform to connect with industry peers, exchange ideas, and share our ongoing work supporting financial inclusion through technology.

We return from Harare with many valuable connections. We thank the organisers and all participants for the meaningful conversations and look forward to continuing the dialogue in future collaborations.
